Togetherness. It takes us all a long way.

In the interests of #BreedingBrilliance, it is an atmosphere of doing it together that drives our team at Rosemont Stud. Together in the fields, together in the good times or bad, together with our clients, our breeding partners, together on the racetrack, together in the winners room. Success starts together.

The Rosemont Stallion roster for 2023 highlights our commitment to a burgeoning Victorian industry. A stallion roster small in number but high in Quality. In Excitement. In Brilliance…

Rosemont Stud are proud to present our stallion roster for the 2023 season.

The spectacular rise of SHAMUS AWARD – an elite sire of Group One Winners has been nothing short of phenomenal and the champion son of Snitzel heads the roster at $60,500 inc GST

Within just the last two years, Shamus Award has produced four individual Group One winners including WFA superstars INCENTIVISE & DUAIS and a further nine Group or Listed winners ranging from 1000m-2400m.

Further highlighting his ability at siring the elite of the elite is a recent Arion study placing him behind only Extreme Choice ($275,000 fee) as the highest, current Australian based sire by percentage of Group One Winners per runner.

Not only has SHAMUS AWARD established himself as the dominant son of champion sire Snitzel, statistically he’s now amongst the best sires in Australia. In fact, his 6.75% SW/R’s ratio is easily the best of any commercial stallion based in Victoria and superior to the likes of SO YOU THINK, DUNDEEL, TORONADO, STREET BOSS, WRITTEN TYCOON, BRAZEN BEAU, NICCONI, STAR WITNESS etc.

Importantly, at the 2023 yearling sales it is worth noting SHAMUS AWARD produced a 6.5 x return on service fee – substantially more than the likes of the very best stallions such as I AM INVINCIBLE, SNITZEL, ZOUSTAR, EXCEED AND EXCEL, SO YOU THINK, PIERRO, WRITTEN TYCOON & DUNDEEL.

With yearlings averaging over $175,000 (off an $18k fee) at both Magic Millions & Easter and with numbers of over 270 to follow (combined yearling & weanling crop) expect to see a new Victorian charge for the mantle of Champion Australian sire…

The explosive, EXTREME WARRIOR – the Highest Rated 3yo son of freakish young sire, EXTREME CHOICE – stands his second season at $19,800 inc GST.

A precocious, multiple stakes performer as an early 2yo, It was however at Three, in a competitive Group 3 Blue Sapphire Stakes at Caulfield, that EXTREME WARRIOR emphatically laid claim to his Group One talent. A last 400m blitz which race-caller Matt Hill described as a ‘wow performance’…. ‘Extreme Warrior runs straight past Profiteer…this is going to be a demolition!’

We are excited to launch his second season & feel his 2023 fee reflects great value for such a dynamic, brilliant son of a Extreme Choice (2023 Fee $275,000) and whose mares in foal include:

SMALL MINDS (Group One Winner & dam of 2x stakes winners)

SOFT LANDING (Dam of Group One winner KRONE)

TENNESSEE (NZ) (Stakes Winning 2yo)

MO SEE CAL (USA) (USA Stakes Winning maiden mare)

ALL HALLOW’S EVE (NZ) (Group Winner in 2021, maiden mare)

THURLOW (Dual Stakes Winning 2yo)

MISS MARX (Dual Stakes Winning sprinter)

ERAMOR (Stakes Winning 2yo)

UMGETON (Stakes Winner & dam of speedster MIDWEST)

Remaining at his introductory fee of $17,600, the hugely popular HANSEATIC retired in 2021 with a massive 2yo profile and a wave of excitement from breeders who were quick to identify his obvious commercial appeal.

It was no surprise that at the conclusion of Hanseatic’s first breeding season in 2021, he became the most patronized first season stallion in Victorian Breeding history by covering his 190th mare of the season. Incredibly, over 60% of breeders who supported Hanseatic in Season 1, returned again in Season 2 – a categorical reflection of not only his popularity but the type of foals we were seeing born last spring.

Described by trainer Anthony Freedman as ‘dynamite…the best 2yo we have had since Alinghi’, Hanseatic has covered 370 mares over his first two seasons which has him perfectly set up to make a fast & immediate impact at stud.

From the immediate family of BLACK CAVIAR and by gun sire STREET BOSS (2023 Fee $66,000) – the #1 source of the Street Cry line, HANSEATIC has covered almost 40 Stakes Winning mares including G1 winners COSTA VIVA, TYCOON TARA & AMANPOUR etc), over 30 Stakes Producers (including dams of G1 Winners BELLA VELLA, BEAUTY GENERATION, & KRONE), whilst over 90 mares covered were half-sisters to stakes winners.

Given this quality and patronage, 2023 shapes as the ‘smart’ play to consider Hanseatic; the most likely of all stallions who retired in 21’ to jump the blocks early with his 2yo’s.

Rounding out the Rosemont roster is the magnificent I Am Invincible son STRASBOURG who stands his 4th season at stud for $8,800 inc GST.

A $750,000 Inglis Easter graduate himself, Strasbourg is a young stallion with an uncanny likeness to his own champion sire, who not only looks a clone of I Am Invincible (2023 Fee: $302,500) but is displaying the unique trait of producing such consistent quality into his stock – something ‘Vinnie’ is so renowned for.

With a 2023 Australian Yearling Average of over $68,000 (almost 7x conceived fee) and top colt fetching $220,000top filly for $170,000 – the Strasbourg yearlings certainly took the eye of many a good judge including some of the best trainers in the country.

Described by regular rider Tommy Berry as ‘electric’, Strasbourg was somewhat of a rare pre-Christmas 2yo by his sire and given his strong 2yo numbers he will have in work, don’t be surprised to see this young stallion appear like a bullet on the First Season Sires premiership next season.

ALL Rosemont Stallion are presented with ‘Payment On Live Foal’ terms.
