The Goffs UK Premier Yearling Sale signalled the beginning of the European yearling sales circuit and a colt by Rosemont Stud shuttler Starspangledbanner (Choisir) was the headline act on day one as Richard Ryan went to £170,000 (A$310,000) to secure the youngster from the Coulonces Sales draft, who will head into training with Roger Varian.

Catalogued as Lot 165, the colt is the first foal out of the placed Dalakhani (Darshaan) mare Dalakhania.

Dalakhania herself is out Listed-placed mare Arme Ancienne (Sillery), making her a half-sister to Group 2 winner Ziyad (Rock Of Gibraltar).

The colt’s third dam is Agathe (Manila) – the dam of multiple Grade 1 winner Artiste Royale (Danehill), fellow elite scorer Aquarelliste (Danehill) and Australian Listed scorer Annenkov (Danehill).

Starspangledbanner is enjoying a white hot last couple of months highlighted by four individual stakes winners among 35 winners. He returns to Rosemont Stud at the great value fee of $19,800 (inc GST).
