Mr Quickie (Shamus Award – Special Favour)

It’s a big day in Adelaide …. Derby Day! And Rosemont-bred and part-owned Mr Quickie is favourite. Group One glory awaits the team in the City of Churches but there is a big stable of runners heading to Caulfield too for what should be a big day for the red colours! Here’s our look at the chances:

Horses racing everywhere today. Four at Caulfield and two at Morphettville.  First runner comes up at Caulfield Thunderdome.

He ran a great race at Warrnambool  and was stiff to just get bobbed out on the line. He will be fit and firing at the end. Great odds at $10.

Free Thrills runs next and she is in the Redoutes Choice Stakes. Ran a bottler in the million dollar Showdown. Can go on with the job here and at $14 expect her to be in the first four. Luck Favours is 100 to 1 shot with the bookies but much shorter in our eyes. We have galloped her on heavy ground before and she seems to love it so that won’t be a problem and ridden more aggressively today and allowed to roll-on I reckon she’s a sneaky to get us a big result today.

Finally at Caulfield Remember The Name is in the last race and should prove very hard to beat. She is fit and well and her form looks great for this having run third behind Mr Quickie last start in a rich VOBIS race. Soft ground will help her and she is on trial here for a shot at the 2000m listed race in Adelaide next week.

At Morphettville I think our best chance of the day comes up in race four with Split Lip. Third up, her first two runs have been great and I think she will be right there when the whips are cracking. Spoke to trainer Will Clarken and he gives her a big chance of winning today and will be disappointed if she doesn’t at least run top three.

Finally, it’s extremely exciting to have the favourite in a group 1 race the South Australian Derby. Mr Quickie has become our favourite horse with his eight courageous victories and massive will to win. He is a happy healthy horse,  gets conditions to suit and as long as he runs out the Derby trip he is your winner!!!!! Go Quickie!!!!
