Wilgerbosdrift’s exciting new sire Soft Falling Rain has successful some top class mares this year, during his first season at stud.

Among his mates tested in foal is one of the best sprinting fillies to have raced in South Africa for many a year.

Alboran Sea, a daughter of European Horse Of The Year and leading sire Rock Of Gibraltar, is among the top class mares in foal to Soft Falling Rain.

Interestingly, the resultant foal will be inbred to unbeaten sire legend Danzig, a pattern which has produced more than 30 G1 winners the world over.

Bred by Rosemont Stud in Australia, Alboran Sea was a AUS $105 000 buy at the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale.

She went on to prove herself an outstanding racehorse, winning or placing in nine of her ten outings and earning over R2 million in prize money.

The Mike de Kock trained filly reeled off back to back wins in her first two outings at two, with her wins including a score in the G1 Allan Robertson Fillies Championship. She followed that up when an unlucky second in the G1 Golden Slipper on Vodacom Durban July.

Alboran Sea returned as good, if not better, at three, when she won a conditions plate at Turffontein. She then added wins against the best sprinters around when successful in both the G1 Cape Flying Championship and G1 Computaform Sprint –both times beating the subsequent Equus Champion Sprinter Captain Of All.

Following a second place finish to arch-rival Carry On Alice in the G1 City Of Pietermaritzburg Fillies Sprint, Alboran Sea was found to have been injured and was subsequently retired to stud.

A son of the late, great National Assembly, Soft Falling Rain was unbeaten at two –like such outstanding sires as Raise A Native, Nijinsky II, Native Dancer, Dubawi, Caerleon, Galileo, Montjeu and the mighty Sadler’s Wells.

He is from arguably the hottest male line on the planet –with the Danzig male line responsible for such current sire standouts as Cape Cross, Redoute’s Choice, Invincible Spirit, Sea The Stars, Fastnet Rock, Exceed And Excel, and Hinchinbrook, to name but a few.

Rosemont Stud will offer a Starspangledbanner half-brother to Alboran Sea at the 2016 Magic Millions Yearling Sale as Lot 370 – click here for pedigree.
