With the recent announcement of South Africa’s 2015 Racing Association Feature Season Awards, it was celebration all round at Rosemont Stud as graduate Alboran Sea claimed Champion Sprinter.

While not the official Horse of The Year awards, known as the Equus Awards, the Racing Association Awards recognise the achievements of the best runners throughout the Johannesburg racing season.

Nonetheless, an Award at this prestigious ceremony is very much a pointer for the Equus Awards held later in the year where Alboran Seas would be the Champion Sprinter elect at this stage.

With victory at her last two starts both at Group 1 level, adding to her earlier win as a two-year-old at the elite level, the triple Group 1-winning Rosemond Stud graduate Alboran Sea (Rock Of Gibraltar x Lady’s Light) is now the winner of five from nine, having also recorded two placed efforts.

While everyone Group 1 victory is an amazing result for all concerned, her most recent performance saw the game three-year-old filly take on the older horses including Group 1 winners Willow Magic and Captain Of All and win the race by three-parts-of-a-length – footage below.

With her Toorak Toff half-brother making $300,000 at this year’s Inglis Easter Yearling Sale, the highest price recorded by a Victorian based first season sire, Lady’s Light’s current weanling is by another of Rosemont Stud’s stallions –this time the incomparable Starspangledbanner, a sire all the rage on the global stage highlighted by his impressive stakes winners not on in Australia, but in Europe as well.

All in all it was a great Awards ceremony in South Africa, with fellow Australian bred runners Wylie Hall, Majmu and Entisaar all claiming Champion titles.
