With six sold during the premium sessions of the 2014 Magic Millions Yearling Sales (Days 1 to 4) on the Gold Coast, Rosemont Stud’s Starspangledbanner came up trumps, leading all first season sires on average yearling sale price.
With his best result being $240,000 for Lot 67 out of She’s Alluring, the colt was purchased by Spicer Thoroughbreds, the very same buyer of Starspangledbanner when he was purchased as a yearling all those years ago – we wish Brad and his team the best of luck with the colt and hope he is just as successful!
Lot 67 was the second yearling by Starspangledbanner to sell at the sale, the chestnut colt’s dam is a half-sister to stakes winner Hillfa, who is in turn the dam of Listed winner Walk With Attitude. Already the dam of the Chris Waller-trained, Group One Champagne Stakes placegetter Fast And Sexy, the Three Bridges as agent consigned colt is unfortunately the last foal from the mare who died a few days after foaling the colt.
Averaging a very healthy $127,500, the next best price achieved for one of his yearlings was for Lot 39 from Rosemont Stud’s draft on behalf of clients Saconi Thoroughbreds. Secured by Melbourne-based trainer Mark Riley for $170,000, the colt is out of the Rory’s Jester mare Runaway Jesse from the family of Group Three Carbine Club Stakes winner All Courage, a son of Rosemont Stud stallion Danzero.
Another of his yearling to sell very well was Lot 254 from the draft of Mick Malone’s Kitchwin Hills who went through the ring on day two of the sale.
Out of the Brief Truce mare Breaking News, a half-sister to dual Listed winner Force Apollo, as well as the dams of Listed winners Siranto, Catriona, Speedy Leo and Prince Rubiton, the filly was secured by Denise Martin’s Star Thoroughbreds for $170,000 and is likely to find her way into the stable of Chris Waller.
Already the dam of four winners including the five-time stakes winner News Alert, this filly, like her sire, will be syndicated and will hopefully give many new owners the thrill of racing!
Best of luck to all the buyers of the progeny of Starspangledbanner.
