Having recorded his maiden victory a few weeks back at Cranbourne, the John Sadler-trained Stereosonic headed back to the very same track for another victory today, taking out the TW Plastering 3yo Handicap.
Racing second up over the 1400m, the Jamie Mott-ridden gelding settled just beyond mid-field and based on his previous victory at the course over 1200m, the punters sent him out as a warm favourite.
Getting up along the rail to settle with about five runners behind him, Mott had to work some magic to get the gelding off the fence at the right time. As the field proceeded towards the turn, Stereosonic was looking for gaps, but there were none, and Mott had to pull his runner off the heels of those in front of him to search for room on the outside.
Once clear running was found, Mott rode aggressively to catch the leader, but once reached, hands and heels riding was all that was needed to record back-to-back victories for the three-year-old.
Purchased by Malua Bloodstock for the Stayers Fund at the 2011 New Zealand Select Yearling Sale for only $25,000 it is already apparent, that this classy gelding is going to earn his connections; Cotton On Flyers (Mgr: N Austin), Studs & Stallions (Mgr: J D O’Brien), W J Gleeson, P J Raftopoulos, K Weiss, Wellfield Lodge Syndicate (Mgr: W J Gleeson), E D Santone, S L Dowling, G Flynn, J G Bhujoharry, Ms T P Rothwell, C Opasinis & M J Stapleton, well-above that purchase price.
Stereosonic is another recent example of a horse that spells on the Rosemont Stud property and he now looks likely to head to a better class of race, possibly on a Saturday in the coming weeks.
