Having spent the past week on the Gold Coast attending the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale, Rosemont Stud walked away with 25 mares, the largest purchaser by number outside that of Magic Millions as agent.

With three stallions in Danzero, Toorak Toff and new recruit Starspanglebanner set to have plenty of support from Rosemont Stud-owned mares, a few more were needed to add to the “harem”.

Ranging in price from $7,000 to $150,000, many of the mares were purchased in foal, while a few unraced fillies were also purchased and will have the opportunity to head to the racetrack to add value to their already impressive pedigree pages before retiring to stud.

Some highlights from the mares purchased include;

Lot 551 – Medici Madonna (Exceed And Excel x My Madonna, by Prego)
This unraced filly is a half-sister to the four time G1 winner Divine Madonna as well as the G3-winning, G1 placed Blessum. Pieta, a half-sister to both of these stakes winners is the dam of the Listed-winning, G3 placed mare in the Gerald Ryan stable Angel Of Mercy, while Divine Madonna, who was purchased by Darley as a broodmare and is the dam of the up and coming filly Redoute’s Choice filly La Pieta.

Lot 575 – Splendid Eagle (Sebring x Wedgetail Eagle, Lure)
From the first crop of G1 Golden Slipper winner Sebring, who is one of the leading first-season sires of his year, Splendid Eagle was foaled at leading thoroughbred nursery Segenhoe Stud out of the winning Lure mare Wedgetail Eagle. Unraced, Splendid Eagle is a half-sister to the Listed winner Soaressa, who in turn is the dam of the stakes placed Exceed And Excel filly Thermal Current, while another half-sister is the dual Listed-winning, G1 placed Impressive Eagle.

Lot 695 – Divine Secret (Thunder Gulch x Prayerful, by Don’t Say Halo)
Having run third in the G1 Blue Diamond of her 2yo season, Thunder Gulch mare Divine Secret comes from the family of stakes winners Prayerful, Excited Angel, Aquiver and Typhoon. Sold with a positive test to Coolmore Stud’s High Chaparral, the sire of G1 winners So You Think, Shoot Out, It’s A Dundeel and Monaco Consul to name a few, Divine Secret has produced two winners from four runners to date including the Listed placed Encosta de Lago filly Secret Delight.

Lot 699 – Doubtful Diva (Not A Single Doubt x Royal Snip, by Royal Academy)
An unraced daughter of Redoute’s Choice stallion Not A Single Doubt, the sire of this season’s unbeaten G1 Blue Diamond winner Miracles Of Life, Doubtful Diva is out of the Listed runner-up Royal Snip a full-sister to the Listed winner Academy Dancer. Royal Snip is also the dam of the Listed winner Royal Babe and to the dam of the up and coming Listed performed Heart Testa. From the family of G1 winner Fully Fledged, Doubtful Diva was sold with a positive to Darley’s triple G1-winning son of Exceed And Excel in the flashy chestnut Helmet (pictured right).

Lot 795 – Langness (Danehill x Isca, by Rory’s Jester)
The equal top price of the Rosemont Stud purchases, Langness is a Listed winning daughter of Danehill out of the dual G1-winning Champion Sprinter in Isca. A winner of the G1 Newmarket Hcp and the G1 Lightning Stakes, Isca was a class filly of her generation, winning four races, all at stakes level and is also a full-sister to stakes winner Slapstick, and a half-sister to Star Alight and Sadalbari. Sold with a positive test to Darley’s outstanding son of Galileo in New Approach, the sire of G1 winners Dawn Approach and Talent, the resultant foal is likely to be a highly regarded commondity come yearling sale time.

Lot 916 – Romance Writer (NZ) (One Cool Cat x Tricia Ann (NZ), by Zabeel)
A winning half-sister to the G2-winning, G1-placed La Sizeranne (dam of debut Listed winner Za Moulin Rouge), as well as the stakes placed pair of Napa Sky and Joy’s Choice, all out of the G2 placed Zabeel mare Tricia Ann. This is also the family of G1 winners Grosvenor, Mahaya, Niello and the 11-time G1 winner and Champion Sire Lonhro. Sold in foal to Shamardal’s G1-winning son Lope De Vega, whose oldest southern hemisphere crop are only yearlings.

Lot 982 – Sunday Service (Sunday Silence (USA) x Lady’s Delight (SAF), by Local Talent)
The equal highest priced mare purchased by Rosemont Stud, Sunday Service is a multiple stakes performed daughter of the Champion Sunday Silence, out of the South African stakes winner Lady’s Delight who is a half-sister to four stakes winners as well as the dam of G1 Caulfield Cup winner Diatribe.

The dam of three foals to the races for three winners, Sunday Service’s progeny is highlighted by the Listed-winning Encosta de Lago filly Kneeling, who herself sold earlier in the sale for $380,000. Sunday Service carries a positive test to Fastnet Rock’s G1 William Reid Stakes winner Foxwedge.
