A star-studded trio of mares have just about finished an extended spell in the picture-perfect surrounds of Rosemont Gnarwarre near Geelong. Multiple Group One winners Mosheen, King’s Rose and Absolutely have called the beautiful farm home for several months as they prepare for life after racing … and life on other shores.
The Group One trio have been part or wholly purchased by Katsumi Yoshida to visit his star stallion Deep Impact in Japan. Katsumi has been very active indeed in recent months, accumulating an amzing array of Australian mares to take north for his stellar bunch of stallions. As well as Mosheen, Absolutely and King’s Rose, he has purchased Caulfield Cup heroine Southern Speed and AJC Derby winner Shamrocker.
Mosheen will be bred in Japan on behalf of Katsumi and co-owner, Aussie good guy Phil Sly who hit the jackpot with the daughter of Fastnet Rock. Buying her with the expert help of mate Troy Corstens, Sly ended up with not just a top-class racehorse, but a source of great inspiration as he fought a personal battle with cancer.
The winner of four Group One races including the VRC Oaks and a placing in the Golden Slipper, Mosheen is in rare racetrack company and now gets to head to the breeding shed having been relatively lightly raced.
Sly visited Rosemont Gnarwarre recently and was most impressed with the way Mosheen was letting down and is looking forward to her breeding career. “It’s so exciting to have a mare like this visit a stallion like Deep Impact. He is a world class top-notch stallion and the plans that Katsumi has with his worldwide racing empire is so exciting. I’m just privileged to be a little part of it,” sly said.
Rosemont’s Anthony Mithen said it was a great honor to have three star mares stop over at the farm on their way to Japan. “It’s been a great thrill to be entrusted with their care. They have thrived here and we will be very excited to present them to Katsumi in the condition we have them in. I will be very keen to follow their progress in the breeding barn, that’s for sure.”
