Trainer Mark Young had targeted the Mildura Cup carnival for a number of progressive horses raced under the Rosemont Stud banner over the August weekend … with stunning results.

Saddling up three runners with the Rosemont red colors, they all saluted to give Young and jockey Steve Vella a rare treble and have the team at Rosemont cheering.

Progressive middle distance horse Carneie Flyer got the ball rolling to record his second win of the year and his career to show great signs for the prep ahead. First-up today and by the I’ll-fated Carnegie, the gelding is sure to relish a longer trip as his campaign continues.

Extra pleasing for Young and Rosemont was the win of Ekibuuka, a lovely 3yo gelding by Encosta de Lago from the family of European English Oaks winner Maybe and star stallion Dr Devious.

Back from a spell and the unkindest cut of all, Ekibuuka will be aimed optimistically at some of the 3yo carnival races.

Completing the treble was another Encosta gelding named Nestus. A deserving winner of his maiden in emphatic style, Nestus came down the middle of the track to blitz his rivals and indicate he could be a stayer of the future.

From Galileo mare Ocean Pearl, he is certainly bred to stay and could be hitting his straps at the right time with plenty of options through the next few months.

Rosemont’s Anthony Mithen was delighted with the treble of victories. “It doesn’t matter where it is, to win three races in a row at a carnival meeting is awesome. The only disappointment was that we couldn’t be there!”

Rosemont’s team were extra busy on Friday parading new stallion Toorak Toff at the Thoroughbred Breeders first season parade at Moonee Valley prior to the TBV breeder awards night.

“He was extremely well received and bookings are now getting quite limited. He has plenty of quality mares booked and we could not be more pleased with how breeders have responded to him,” Mithen said

“It has been a huge week all up. After buying the new farm, (Makybe) we took over this week and have been settling in and setting up for what should be a great season for us. Add to that some quality new foals hitting the ground this week by Fastnet Rock, Star Witness and Not a Single Doubt and things are flying.”
