Rosemont Stud is delighted to announce it’s purchase of part of the Makybe Stud.

Having spent the past few years building a considerable business that provides agistment, breeding needs, yearling preparation and now stallion services, Rosemont had been keeping a quiet eye out for a farm to cater for its expanding enterprises. Makybe was the perfect fit.

Anthony Mithen from Rosemont said it was a huge result having searched for quite some time for a farm that would especially be suited to growing out young stock and cater for stallions.

“It is massive for us. With the business growing strongly over the past couple of years and with a very strong commitment to standing commercial stallions at realistic prices so everyone can make a dollar, this property was a dream come true,” Mithen said.

“I still have to pinch myself. There is not a better farm for producing A-grade stock – Starspangledbanner, Arapaho Miss, Better Be The One (Common Interest), Headway and a host of others are proof of that. I am certain we will be able to keep the ball rolling.”

He said the stallion facilities were near enough to the best in the country, which would now be the home for Danzero ($11,000 Inc) and first season multiple G1 winner Toorak Toff ($16,500 Inc), while a decision on whether Purrealist stayed at the farm was still to be made.

“We have now headed down the track of making sure Victoria gets a real chance to reassert itself as a state capable of retaining and standing the best stallions in the country, not just the also-rans. We had to beat off a bunch of Hunter Valley farms to secure Toorak Toff and the response has been enormous. I can’t wait to see him led into the magnificent stallion barn at Volum Road and stand there under the Rosemont Stud banner.”

As well as 1400 acres and the stallion facilities, the property comes with several large yearling barns, a heritage bluestone mansion that will remain an office and some of the best river frontage flats in Victoria.

“We are very lucky that the existing Rosemont homestead has some beautiful river flats and rolling hills that will offer some unbelievable spelling paddocks, and the new acquisition, to be known as Rosemont Stud, will play home to the breeding stock and mares and offer a very similar profile of hills and river flats,” Mithen said. “It’s a very exciting time for all of us at Rosemont, there is no doubt.”

Rosemont Stud will offer the full range of services to breeders and welcome inquiries.
