Emerging stayer Flashy Fella’s tilt at G1 success is on track after an ‘oh so close’ mission to Western Australia almost paid dividends.

The Mike Moroney-trained, Rosemont Stud-owned Flashy Fella ran an unlucky second in the G2 WA Derby, never able to get a clear crack at them until the last 100, by which time eventual winner Rohan had a winning break.

But he can right the wrongs in Adelaide in the Group One $500,000 SA Derby on May 4 in which he will start one of the favorites.

Form around the 3yo son of Thorn Park is stunning, with his close up second in the 1800m Caulfield Autumn Classic seeing ATC Derby winner Ethiopia run third, while Flashy Fella’s next start saw him win over 2000m back at Caulfield beating ATC Derby runner-up Polish Knight as well as Anzac Day’s St Leger winner Vatuvei. Third in that race was Thy, Waikato Stud’s filly that ran third in last week’s ATC Australian Oaks.

Flashy Fella was bought by Rosemont at the 2010 NZB premier yearling sale for $50,000NZ and has already returned the farm more than $160,000 in prizemoney.
