Rosemont Stud was up on its toes yesterday for the running of the Group 3 Monrovia Stakes at Los Angeles Santa Anita racecourse with all eyes glued to the internet for the performance of Wild Mia.

The now 5yo mare was purchased by the farm through Vin Cox Bloodstock late in 2010 as a race-on broodmare prospect and continues to race in great heart, barnstorming to the line to run out of ground but put in the run of the race to place second, just a length off the winner.

Run over 1300m on the grass at Santa Anita, Wild Mia has proven to be more of a miler, but first-up from her first break since being bought by Rosemont, she flew home to make up huge ground over the last 200m.

Already a multiple stakes winner having won the Hollywood Redondo Beach Stakes for Rosemont last year and prior to purchase winning a 2yo stakes race at Calder, she is racking up an impressive record having won four and placed second 7 times from just 15 starts.

On purchasing Wild Mia, Rosemont knew they had a smart filly when she went to Keeneland and won by five lengths in her first run sporting the red and white Gatecrasher colors. Her very next start she just went down in a Group 2 race at Churchill Downs over 1700m to stamp herself as a genuine stakes horse.
A beautifully athletic daughter of Wildcat Heir, the grey mare will race on in California before coming out to Rosemont mid 2012 to be bred at the farm. A decision on what stallion she visits has not yet been made but with Danzero the inaugural stallion in 2011, you can bet the farm may be looking to add to their stallion ranks in 2012 and Wild Mia would be a welcome addition to any stallion’s book.

In the meantime, she will be aimed at more black-type races through the Californian winter.
