Stok rocks it home in Herbie Dyke

The training combination of Donna Logan and Chris Gibbs won the Group 1 Herbie Dyke Stakes (2000m) at Te Rapa for the second consecutive year when Volkstok’n’barrell ($3 favourite) edged out three-year-old Savile Row ($3.50).

Logan and Gibbs prepared three-year-old filly Valley Girl to win last year’s Herbie Dyke but it was clearly evident this year’s win meant more to Logan.

“It’s just so nice to see him back,” Logan told the NZ Racing Desk.

“This was our plan all the way through, we’re so excited. He’s had his knockers and we’ve kept quiet and now he’s done it."

Logan is undecided on Volstok’n’barrell’s future, although a trip to Australia is an option.

The Michael Moroney-trained Savile Row lost no admirers with his effort and is $6 second favourite for the $1 million New Zealand Derby (2400m) held at Ellerslie on Saturday, March 4.

Authentic Paddy ($16) ran third whilst the in-foal Abidewithme ($11) has been retired following her fourth-placed effort.
