In what is a really pleasing result for Rosemont Stud, of the 16 yearlings we took to the 2014 Magic Millions Yearling Sale at the Gold Coast in January, so far seven of them have been named, and with only two having been to the races, it's great to report that both are winners!!

Getting the ball rolling was the Mark Riley-trained Starspangledbanner colt Of The Brave, a winner of the Listed Debutant Stakes a few weeks back when having his first career start.

A prior winner of his only barrier trial, the Saconi Thoroughbreds-bred colt is out of the Rory’s Jester mare Runaway Jesse, therefore making him a three-quarter brother to the million dollar plus earner Eloping.

In a great twist, the win of Of The Brave occurred on the same day as the Group One Caulfield Guineas, a race his sire recorded his first Group One victory in back in 2009.

Ridden by Stephen Baster, Of The Brave jumped straight to the lead, and while untroubled throughout, the imposing chestnut colt skipped clear turning for home to record a length and a quarter victory.

“This horse is not even close to being near his best and I think potentially he is the best horse I have ever had,” said Riley.

“He is the most exciting horse and his coat has not come through yet. He has just done everything so right, he is just a natural racehorse with a great attitude.

“He is a Magic Millions horse and if we take him up there we will just take it one step at a time. He will go to the paddock tomorrow and we will make our plans from there,” he said.

Secured for $170,000, Of The Brave was the second highest-priced yearling sold by his sire at the sale behind the colt out of She’s Alluring that was knocked down for $240,000 to Brad Spicer’s Spicer Thoroughbreds, the very judge who secured Starspangledbanner as a yearling.

The second of our Magic Millions draft to record success on the track was the Snitzel colt Salerno.

Purchased by Paul Perry for $280,000 this colt was the most expensive yearling we sold at the sale.

Out of the Woodman mare Keela, herself a half-sister to the Listed-winning juvenile Fluro, Salerno started his career with a good effort in the Listed Breeders’ Plate before backing up two weeks later over the same course at distance for a one and a quarter length victory.

Perry's son and foreman Shannon said the $2 million Magic Millions Classic at the Gold Coast was the target.

"He drew wide in the Breeders' Plate but getting to the rail today was a big advantage," Perry said.

"He's a Magic Millions horse and that's where he's headed.

"I don't think we've ever had a runner. Stratum was originally going there but he was doing so well we kept him for the Slipper."

With both two-year-old colts looking likely prospects for the 2015 Magic Millions 2YO Classic on the Gold Coast, it is exciting times ahead for the connections of these two and we wish them the best of lcuk with their future race careers.
