Group One Target For The Wow Signal

The Wow Signal (Starspangledbanner-Muravka, by High Chaparral) looks like stepping up to Gr1 level for the Keeneland Phoenix Stakes at The Curragh on 10 August. The son of fertility challenged Australian sire Starspangledbanner created a big impression when winning the Gr2 Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot last month and his trainer John Quinn is excited as to what the future may hold.

The Gr1 Prix Morny at Deauville on 24 August is also under consideration, but Quinn told Racing UK that the Phoenix Stakes was the preferred option.

"I've spoken to Harry Herbert (racing manager for owners Al Shaqab Racing) and if the ground is nice that is where we'll go," said the Yorkshire trainer.

"He's also in the Gimcrack at York and the Dewhurst at Newmarket and we've also got the option of the Group One on Arc day (Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere)."

He added, "He has a great mind and a real appetite for work but whilst everyone dreams about next year, I'll let next year take care of itself and crack on with this year."

The exciting 2YO is unbeaten in his two starts and was purchased by Sheikh Joaan Al Thani after a stunning debut win at Ayr in May when cruising to a 9-length victory.
