VICTORIA’S DOMINANCE SEES A NEW FORCE EMERGE

It is no secret the success that Victorian farms have enjoyed with both racetrack results and yearling sales highlights in recent years.

From the rise and rise of the Helsinge family through the deeds of Black Caviar and All Too Hard, to the dizzying prices achieved in the sale ring from farms such as Makybe, Three Bridges and Gilgai Farm, Victoria has fairly dominated in recent years. And in 2014, the rise of another of Victoria’s progressive farms – Rosemont – is set to continue.

With the largest Victorian draft of horses heading up the eastern seaboard to sell at the Magic Millions January Gold Coast sale, Rosemont will be kept extremely busy parading and selling their finest bunch of yearlings assembled yet in their short selling career. Headlined by colts by Fastnet Rock, Sebring, Starspangledbanner, Not a Single Doubt, Northern Meteor and others, the hits just keep coming.

With 11 colts and five fillies to sell, there will be the right horse for everyone and anticipation is building for the team based down Geelong way.

“It’s funny. At this time of the year the common question you get asked is ‘are you winding down towards Christmas?’ I tell everyone the opposite is true in this game – we are ramping things up for our grand final week which is a week worth of selling on the Gold Coast,” said Anthony Mithen of Rosemont.

“I can’t wait to get up there and show the world the types of horses we are growing out and preparing at our Gnarwarre base. Some ripping horses have come off the farm in the past and the early signs are there that we will be able to keep the momentum rolling for not just our farm but Victoria as a whole.

“We have a ripper Fastnet Rock colt out of very smart multiple city-winning Magic Albert mare, a Sebring colt out of a Group One winning mare, a first crop stunningly handsome Starspangledbanner colt and I probably should mention the Northern Meteor colt out of stakes winner and half to recent stakes winner Tromso,” Mithen added and in what was a timely update for the Starspangledbanner colt (pictured right), his three-quarter-brother Eloping took out the 2yo race at Bendigo on Sunday.

“But I can honestly say, by singling those guys out, I’m not doing justice to the Duporth, Star Witness, Not a Single Doubt, Stratum, Starcraft and Snitzel colts as well as a cracker fifth session colt by Jetspur. I could not be happier with the way they will present.”

Rosemont will also sell five top-class fillies by All American, Star Witness, Beneteau, Reset and Not a Single Doubt.

“All bar one yearling is VOBIS paid up which is a huge incentive to the local trainers. The scheme is worth so much money these days with the addition of VOBIS Gold that Victorian owners and trainers just can’t afford not to buy one with the sticker on it.”

As well as Rosemont’s 15 book one and one book 2 yearlings, Victoria will be well represented again on the Coast by farms Eliza Park International (13 book 1), Burnewang North Pastoral (8), Ampulla Lodge (2) Musk Creek Farm (8), Rangal Park (3), Sweetenham Stud (4) Woodside (2) and Three Bridges (9).

“Given a Victorian farm has topped the market for the highest price yearling in Australasia for three years running and champions like Black Caviar, All Too Hard, Pierro and Starspangledbanner keep coming off our soil or out of Victorian drafts at sales, you have to wonder why you look elsewhere,” Mithen said.
