Mega Result for Rosemont

Just moments before the Group I thrill offered by Shinzig taking out the Orr Stakes, Rosemont enjoyed another huge highlight, adding a Derby trophy to the spoils of the emerging farm.

Mega Boss, bred on the rollings hills up from the Barwon River at Rosemont, demolished the Tasmanian Derby field to win by nearly two lengths, going away from the rest of the field at the end.

The Peter Morgan-trained Peintre Celebre gelding was bought by pokies king Bruce Mathieson at the 2006 Melbourne Premier sale for $70,000.

"I remember telling Bruce at the time 'you've bought a derby horse here'. I'm so glad I was right! He was marked equal best colt of the sale on type by some of the Inglis guys which was a huge feather in his and his mother's cap," said Anthony Mithen of Rosemont.

His mum, Mega Achiever, is a Defensive Play half sister to New Zealand horse of the year Showella and a half brother to Emirates Stakes runner-up Buster Jones. She has a yearling colt by Shamardal to be offered by Rosemont on day one of this year's Premier Sale as well as an Exceed and Excel colt foal at foot. She's in foal to God's Own.

"The family just keeps improving. Showella has already produced the very talented Safwa and now Mega Boss is doing the family proud," said Mithen.

It's expected that Mega Boss will now continue on to the South Australian derby before taking some time off before what should be a very exciting spring cups assault for both connections and the lucky breeders.
