True Excelsior is Something Special

Having just her third start and her first since late March, the Leon & Troy Corstens trained filly enjoyed a good run behind the leader before taking a split along the rails and sprinting home impressively.

“She had trialled up really well and obviously her form last preparation shows that she has quite a bit of class,” Thompson said.

“It is nice to see that she is putting it altogether; I am sure there are better things in store for her.”

“She has always given the impression that she would get to the mile or a little bit further,” he added.

“She has always been a filly with nice ability,” Troy Corstens said, “and she is one who I think will get better with time… she could line up in some black type events over the spring.”

“She was my favourite filly at the New Zealand Premier Sale and I was lucky enough that Anthony Mithen also loved her and he and Nigel Austin (of Rosemont Stud) went very hard for her.”

Showing considerable promise when city placed at her first two starts, True Excelsior is all the more mature this time in and going on her pedigree there is plenty more in store.

Bred by Sir Patrick & Lady Hogan, True Excelsior hails from Cambridge Stud’s most famous family, that descending from legendary broodmare Eight Carat.

A NZ$450,000 Karaka Premier graduate, the daughter of Exceed And Excel is out of the unraced Zabeel mare Special Diamond who has also produced the stakes placed winners Diamond Valores and Special Lover.

Special Diamond is out of Eight Carat’s Group One winning daughter Diamond Lover who made her contribution to this prolific family producing six winners including the dual Group One winner Tristalove, the AJC Derby winner Don Eduardo, the dual Group winner Peruzzi and the two times Listed winner Antwerp.

Like her dam, Diamond Lover has proven to be a strong matriarch with her descendants including the Group One winners Viking Ruler, De Beers and Viscount, the Group winners Kempinsky, Gift Of Power, Zephyron, Forever Loved and Lovetristra as well as the Listed winners Diamond Like, Helsingborg and Lucida.
